News Update: 14th March 2021

A cloud day usually provides ideal conditions for carp to feed during the daytime on McGregor Lake and Robert Livock took full advantage of such weather when, during a short-day session, he landed three carp, mirrors weighing 12lb 8oz and 14lb 8oz and an 11lb common. Lloyd Gadsby was also fishing, and he too got amongst the carp landing a 15lb mirror soon after casting out. Later in the day he moved into a vacated swim from which he caught a 23lb mirror carp.

The first carp to be reported from Swan Lake, a 20lb mirror carp was caught by Dave Flint. It is thought that the fish is one supplied by VS Fisheries within the last few years which has grown fast in this rich water.

Fraser Hayden continued to fish the club’s river stretches. He fished the overflow channel upstream of the mill pool in Sandy catching five perch to 1lb 6oz. Later in the week, he visited a stretch further upstream from where he caught two nice chub around the 3lb mark and then added a cracking 4lb 15oz specimen which was in pristine condition. All his chub fell to flavoured meat cubes. His final session took him to the little fished Drift section of the River Ouse at Eaton Socon where he tried for perch but without success. A change of tactics late in the day to a ground bait feeder with pellet and maggots finally started to yield results. Within a couple of hours, it was a bream a chuck with  individual fish weighing up to around 4lbs.

It is pleasing to report that the club’s Tyringham Park Farm stretch of the upper Ouse has just received a stocking of young barbel from the Environment Agency’s fish farm at Calverton, a much welcome addition to this superb water. Club bailiff Sam Richardson was on hand to assist with the introduction of about 2000 fish.
