News Update: 4th April 2021

Some fabulous catches have been enjoyed by BHAA’s members over the past week coupled with the return of night fishing.

David Grant tackled the relatively hard Swan Lake fishing a MAD baits wafter over a bed of freebies. His first run during the afternoon produced one of the lake’s largest specimens, a big linear mirror carp weighing 38lb 3oz. During the ensuing night he caught a whopping bream weighing 11lb 8oz and then early the following morning he added another big mirror carp, a 30lb 10oz specimen. His fishing companion Gary Clarke also tasted success in the form of a 27lb mirror carp.

Reports of fish caught at Gingerbread Lake indicated that they were feeding there too with a mirror carp known as ‘The Little Orange’ coming out at 36lbs followed by another low 30lb carp. Later in the week, former barbel record holder, Steve Curtin raised the bar higher by catching a 38lb mirror carp in daylight hours. Paul Swift got among the fish too when he landed a super conditioned 26lb 9oz common carp during night-time hours.

Members wishing to fish McGregor Lake will be pleased to learn that the track leading to the river side of the lake has now been reopened but care still needs to be taken to avoid rutting it. Stephen Chessum fished overnight on the river side where he enjoyed a hectic night’s sport landing 6 carp to over 12lbs. Bailiff Mike Richardson finished the first night of his session by catching 5 carp to 15lbs from a swim on the opposite side of the lake with the prospect of more to come. Earlier in the week, Robert Livock caught a 14lb mirror and a member fishing in an adjacent swim also succeeded by catching a 16lb common carp. Lloyd Gadsby continued his run of catches with mirror carp weighing 18lbs and 15lbs.
