A member who has continued to fish at McGregor Lake throughout the recent hot weather has continued to enjoy some good sport from the lake’s carp catching up to ten carp in a day with individual fish weighing up to 18lbs.
After the recent spawning activity on Swan Lake, Stephen Chessum decided to give the carp a rest and instead decided to try to catch some of the big bream that are present. He fished sweetcorn as bait and before the sun set he had a bite that produced for him a magnificent bream weighing 13lbs, a new pb.
The river season opens again on 16th June. The Association has made an agreement with Olney and Clifton Fishing Association to share our stretches at Lavendon and Harrold. OCFA are a very active river only club with a history of fishery management and bankside/access improvements. We hope this arrangement will make these two stretches of the Ouse a more attractive prospect for all.
Paths have been strimmed and sprayed on The Drift at Eaton Socon, but members will need to open up their own swims. We have been informed that the wooded section at High Romper will be cleared of fallen trees on the north bank. The contractors are happy for us to keep fishing the section but advise being at least 70 metres away from activity. The work will take between 4 and 6 weeks.
We have purchased some new BHAA signs for our river sections, and these will be installed over the next few days. The rivers get hit hard by poachers and this activity is increasing. The EA welcome calls on their 0800 807 060 hotline and in our experience are quite effective. Also, we have a good relationship with the Bedfordshire Rural Crime Team and are assisting with Operation Sentinel – details are available online.
