The 16th of June heralded the start of the river fishing and club treasurer Fraser Hayden was keen to get back alongside some flowing water. He fished a club stretch of the River Ivel using bread flake fished beneath a stick float. In only a couple of hours’ fishing he was catching small chub, dace, roach and even minnows at almost a fish per cast.
Another BHAA board member Dave Hallybone chose to get away from the madding crowds and opted to fish the intimate Grace Lake. His session produced several tench for him with individual fish weighing around 4lbs.
The opening day of the new season saw Dave Flint fishing at Swan Lake. He saw a carp jump in his swim so cast a bait to the spot and a run soon afterwards produced a 23lb 9oz mirror carp for him. Also, during his session he caught another of the lake’s big bream, a 10lb specimen.
McGregor Lake was only lightly fished during the week but produced carp tio, at least, 17lbs.
