Arguably, one of the catches of the new season has been made by Bradley Witten when he fished for carp on one the club’s stetches of the River Ouse. His reward was the capture of a fantastic 30lb 4oz common carp. Many carp anglers completely neglect fishing rivers for them yet, as Bradley has proven, they are there to be caught.
Peter Elliott has been chub fishing along the River Ivel catching fish from 8oz upwards using jerk baits or ledger tactics. One of his recent catches was a magnificent 5lb 12oz specimen in mint condition.
Glenn Mills was rightly ecstatic to catch one of Gingerbread Lake’s sought-after residents, The Clone, weighing an impressive 37lb 8oz. Clive Day, the very person who first suggested the name Gingerbread for the lake, found himself returning to the venue where he enjoyed catching a haul of rudd with fish coming almost every cast.
Ken Torbett visited McGregor Lake where he found silver fish to be feeding avidly catching a large bag of roach, bream and perch waggler fishing with maggots, bread or cheese.
Swan Lake has proven to be a harder nut to crack but Dave Hallybone was able to catch a nice chunky mirror carp around the 20lb mark.
Members will be pleased to learn that the landowner is planning to carry out resurfacing of the main track to the Sandy Lakes fishery in the next few weeks. We will try to inform members of the exact date in case it is necessary to close the fishery whilst the work is being carried out. It will be essential for vehicles to be driven slowly along the track when the work is completed to prevent it being cut up and ending up back at square one.
