News Update: 13th February 2022

With many anglers still finding sport on the lakes a little slow, some of them have turned their attention to the rivers. Fraser Hayden fished the River Ivel at Langford using only light tackle with bread flake or punched bread as bait. The tactics soon started to produce a few roach up to 6oz but it was not long before greedy chub moved in. Fraser went on to land four nice chub weighing 3lb 10oz, 3lb 13oz, 4lb 8oz and 5lb 1oz which gave him some great sport on his light tackle.

Ken Torrance opted for a stretch of the Ivel at Sandy where he was pleased to catch three chub all around the 3lb mark after a change of tactics from float to link ledger did the trick. He returned to the river on another day but blanked showing how finicky fish can be at this time of year. Sam Hallybone decided to target predators lure fishing when he landed some small pike and a nice perch.

Previously, Sam Hallybone had spent a night fishing at McGregor Lake where he banked three nice carp, a large common (weight unknown) and two nice mirrors weighing up to 14lbs. Clive Day fished the same venue where he caught a mirror carp weighing 11lb12oz but as he had decided to call it a day his remaining rod screamed off and he was able to add a nice 16lb mirror carp to his tally. A member who regularly fishes the lake using a bait boat found carp to be feeding during the day in open water and he was able to net two mirror carp weighing 20lbs and 22lbs in addition to another small mirror.

There have been no recent reports of carp from Gingerbread or Swan Lakes. However, the mild weather has brought many small fish on to the surface of Swan Lake and signs of the odd pike striking at them.
