News Update: 4th September 2022

Carp continue to feed as autumn takes hold although many fish are wary of anglers’ baits preferring to feed on natural organisms within the lakes for much of the time. Successful anglers tend to be those that pay particular attention to bait placement and the amount of freebies being introduced. Often more is less!

At McGregor Lake, Robert Livock caught a 12lb 8oz mirror carp during a short day session early in the week. Clive Day tempted an 18lb mirror carp to take a floating bait near to some overhanging branches and later Lloyd Gadsby added a 15lb mirror carp to his tally of catches. Louis Horne reported catching two carp on a recent visit too.

A new member, Lee Chamberlain, was pleased to get off the mark at Gingerbread Lake when he landed a long double-figured common carp.

Fraser Hayden’s latest overnight vigil after the Swan Lake’s big bream ended with ye another big carp for him. Fishing over a small bed of particles with mini-boilies, Fraser caught a cracking 24lb 10oz mirror carp. Mark Jefferys opted for a swim on the lee side of the lake where carp were known to congregate around a large bed of weed. It was well into the dark before he had a run, but he was able to land another big mirror carp weighing 26lb 4oz. On the last morning of his 48-hour session he hooked into his second fish which turned out to be a whopping common carp weighing 33lb 3oz. The fish was in prime condition and was returned promptly after weighing and photographing. Mark used only a small number of free baits to entice fish to feed.

Please note That our stretch of the River Ouse at Lavendon will be reserved for an Open match organised by Olney and Clifton Angling Association with the match times being from 10am until 3pm.

WORK PARTY There will be a work party at the Sandy Lakes complex on Saturday the 17th and Sunday the 18th of September to carry out important improvements on both Swan and McGregor Lakes when both lakes will be closed to fishing. However, Swan Lake will reopen for fishing on Sunday whilst McGregor will remain closed on both days.

Some members have expressed an interest in participating in the work party, which is great. If you would like to attend, please contact Louis Horne on louis1994@hotmail.com or phone him on 07592 679 173.
