News Update: 10th September 2023

The recently reported outbreak of the deadly virus KHV at a nearby commercial fishery requires members to exercise extreme vigilance to avoid it spreading to any of our waters.

CLUB MEMBERS WHO MAY HAVE FISHED AT WATERS IN ADDITION TO BHAA FISHERIES ARE ASKED TO ENSURE THAT THEIR NETS ARE THOROUGLY DRIED BEFORE USING THEM ON OUR FISHERIES. IF YOU MAY HAVE VISITED A FISHERY WHERE THE VIRUS HAS BEEN REPORTED PLEASE DISINFECT THEM TOO.

The hot weather has not affected catch rates over the past week other than encouraging fish to feed more at night and at times before the effects of the sun get too hot. At Gingerbread Lake, Graeme Gadsby caught a dark looking 25lb 10oz mirror carp along with seven bream and three tench. On a subsequent visit, Graeme caught two nice common carp weighing 19lb 4oz and 22lb 2oz. Sam Hallybone fished overnight at the venue catching a big 30lb 3oz mirror carp. Ionut Cires continued to pick up some nice carp including a common carp weighing just under 30lbs floater fishing.

Mark Jefferys decided to fish overnight at Swan Lake to avoid the extremes of the hot weather. His decision proved to be wise for he went on to catch a super 33lb 3oz common carp together with another smaller carp weighing in the low 20s and two sizeable bream.

Fraser Hayden opted for a spot of floater fishing at McGregor Lake introducing a small number of mixers every few minutes. It was not long before the lake’s carp found his offerings and started to feed on them. Fraser enjoyed some great sport catching four mirror weighing between 14lb 10oz and 17lb 10oz using relatively light gear in his snag free swim.

Please note that Olney & Clifton AC will be holding a match on our stretch of the River Ouse at Lavendon on Sunday, 17th September.
