News Update – 5th May 2024

There have been several big carp caught from Gingerbread Lake over the past week including a stunning looking 40lb 4oz common carp by Robert Allcock.

At Swan Lake, a member caught the big two-tone common carp weighing 41lbs making it the third time this fish has been landed within a few weeks. It certainly seems to like anglers’ baits. A few other big carp were caught but details are not yet to hand. The lake’s big bream have been feeding in both the daytime and at night with fish averaging around 8-9lbs. Mick Broom who fishes the lake for carp has caught two big tench each weighing 8lbs with both in tip-top condition.

A member fishing the heavily stocked McGregor Lake banked around 14 carp during a recent visit. Meanwhile, Mick Brown continues in his pursuit of the lake’s bream catching three fish around the 5lb mark together with one of the lake’s smaller carp.

Working Parties

Gingerbread Lake will be closed from 10pm on the 24th of May until 5am in the 27th to enable essential repair work on the otter fencing around the lake to be completed. Anyone interested in participating in the work party should let the Estates/Fisheries Officer, Louis Horne, know as more hands should enable other improvements to the fishery be carried out.

The Board is aware of the disquiet being caused by the continued closure of parts of the tracks at both Swan and McGregor Lakes due to flooding caused by the unprecedented amount of rainfall experienced over recent months. It is planned that a small number of board members will be carrying out sufficient repairs to these tracks to enable full vehicular access to all swims. Members are asked to remain patient for a little while longer. It is planned that this work will take place during the week and will require some areas to be closed off whilst this work is being done as heavy machinery will be employed.
