News Update: 23rd June 2024

The first week of the new season has played out and for those anglers who ventured on to the rivers there was some good sport to be had. Board member Fraser Hayden decided to start on the Drift section of the River Ouse at Eaton Socon where fish of several species are present. He had a good session landing five sizeable bream together with a few smaller silver fish for a total of around 35lbs. Also, he hooked one of the carp that are present along this stretch but, unfortunately, his light tackle was no match for it and the fish escaped. Jamie Boness kicked of with a cracking 4lb 12oz chub, a fish that will no doubt go well over 5lbs later in the year. Barnaby Goding reported an enjoyable day on the river too landing a big bream around 6lbs and a nicely conditioned roach. There has been a report of a massive 40lb mirror carp being caught from the river too from one of the stetches available to BHAA members to fish.

Carp have finally begun spawning in Gingerbread Lake, so members are requested to give areas a wide berth where spawning activity is taking place. Ionut Cires had a short session before work catching two big carp, a mirror carp known as the Clone weighing nearly 40lbs and a hard fighting common carp

The carp in Swan Lake have continued to prove to be elusive with anglers having to put in the time to get any action from them. Mark Jefferys experienced an early run though and was pleased to get off the mark with a 21lb 15oz common carp soon after arriving. However, it was nearly two days later before he had another run, but it was well worth the wait as it turned out to be from a massive 34lb 14oz common carp known as ‘The Barrel’. It was the second time in little over a week since this fish was previously caught. A ‘No Bait Boat’ rule has now been introduced on this lake following complaints of persistent misuse by baits being deliberately placed next to snags risking harm to any fish hooked.
