River catch reports brighten up a difficult week

A new outlet has been arranged for the sale of membership books for the coming season namely JR Goldthorpe & Son’s shop which is located in the High Street in Biggleswade. The premises has the advantage of customer parking facilities at the rear of the shop.

BHAA waters to receive new stocks of fish

Pike anglers have been out in force on all of the Association’s main lakes. A 20lb specimen was reportedly caught at Swan Lake whilst McGregor Lake has produced a number of good-sized fish to 17lbs. Carp were still feeding in Swan Lake but nearly all of the action was taking place in the hours of darkness.

Mild spell brings more good catches

Bream to 5lbs were caught from McGregor Lake where the tactics being used were to target loose feed at some distance from the bank and then to swim feed maggots into the baited area.

Kevin is in his element!

Bailiff Kevin Gormley caught another big mirror carp from Gingerbread Lake. Kevin’s fish was a 36lb specimen and fell to the highly potent Denham Baits’ ‘Element’ boilies. Fellow bailiff Steve Bull visited the nearby St Ives complex from where he caught a massive 47lb mirror also on Denham Baits.

Big fish keep coming two by two!

Membership Secretary Anthony Pogmore used an attractor boilie fished snowman style cast amidst a bed of Denham Baits’ Inception boilies in the factory bay at Gingerbread Lake. He had just received a phone call from one of the club’s bailiffs when the alarm for his right-hand rode signaled a run. The phone was thrown to the floor and, after a short fight, a 20lb 8oz mirror carp was netted. The fish was soon returned so Anthony got back on the phone to explain to his colleague what had happened. He had barely started to talk when his left-hand alarm screamed out and the phone was quickly discarded for a second time. This time the fish turned out to be a 25lb mirror carp.

More barbel for the Ivel

The Environment Agency has recently stocked more juvenile barbel into several stretches of the River Ivel as part of its programme to establish the species in the river. A consignment of around 200 fish were released into Sawmills Pool which means than nearly 1000 fish have been stocked into this stretch of the lower Ivel in recent years.

More specimens caught at Priory Farm

In recent years, the Priory Farm stretch of the River Ouse, known locally as ‘Slow Harrold’, has been gaining a reputation for producing some outstanding catches with bream to over 11lbs and tench over 7lbs too. Allan Lawrence has targeted this area of the river this season where he has added to this list by catching a huge 14lb 7oz barbel plus carp to 22lbs in recent weeks. However, before everyone starts stampeding towards the river, Allan advises that he has had to fish long and hard for his fish.
