Ollie gets some festive joy!

While many anglers have not even dared to venture out in the recent cold weather, 13 year-old Ollie Jenkinson got off to a flying start to his winter campaign. Ollie decided to target pike on one of BHAA’s lakes using a float-fished joey mackerel as bait. His reward was a cracking 18lb 8oz pike. Apart from the odd jack pike, there have been little or no reports of any worthwhile catches during the latest cold spell.

Special Feature – Open Day at McGregor Lake

BHAA Ltd held its first Open Day at McGregor Lake in Sandy and it turned out to be a great day with 30 youngsters taking part accompanied by some mums and dads. There were three qualified coaches on hand to help the youngsters as well as board members to give advice. Everyone who took part caught fish with roach and skimmers feeding well throughout the day. Some larger carp were caught too with Conor Young landing a whopper weighing 12lb 12oz and two more around the 10lb mark.

They just keep getting bigger!

James Lee invited a couple of guests to fish with him on one of BHAA’s lakes but when the trio turned up conditions looked far from ideal. Nevertheless, they had paid for a day’s fishing and they were determined to make a go of it. After a few hours, one of James’s companions had a run on a deadbait and connected with a good fish. It was soon landed and turned out to be a huge pike weighing 26lbs, beating his previous best by a massive 15lbs.
