Chub, Eels and a Barbel

Reports of fish being caught have been few and far between during August. Aaron Prior after an overnight session at McGregor Lake, went and fished the back meadows in Biggleswade and reported catching three chub upto 5.06 and a barbel of 10.05.

The mighty maggot strikes again!

The next meeting of the local PAC will be held at The Wingfield Club, 37 Church Street, Ampthill, MK45 2PL with a 7.30pm start. The guest speaker will be Chris Ponsford who is the co-producer of the video ‘Fenland Pike’ so the evening should be full of fishy tales and tips on how to find those elusive monsters. All anglers are asked to report all incidents of poaching and fish theft to the Environment Agency via its incident hotline on 0800 80 70 60 and the local police by dialling 101.

From zero to hero then rain stops play!

The previous day, floater king Chris Tysoe caught another 40 using his favourite dog biscuits, a 40lb 14oz mirror. Chris Tyrell fished overnight without success but the next morning he caught a 30lb mirror carp and a big bream. Fishing alongside Chris was Dave Holland who was struggling to get even a knock on his float-fished maggots. He decided to try a single grain of sweetcorn and almost immediately it was taken by a 7lb 12oz tench. Anthony Pogmore kept getting bites from bream whilst carp fishing but finally hooked one late into the day, a fish over 9lbs that he quickly released as it was in breeding condition. The lake has since been flooded by the nearby River Ouse and it is likely to take a while before the level drops.
