Changes agreed at AGM

Another member had similar success the previous weekend catching carp weighing 20lb 10oz and 25lbs. Kevin Webb fished at Gingerbread Lake where he caught 6 good-sized bream during a hectic morning session.

Low water temperatures kill sporting action

A consignment of around 50 sizeable king carp are due to be stocked into Gingerbread Lake in the coming weeks to further boost stocks and Grace Lake at Sandy will receive around 300 more large crucian carp.

Lakes come alive after spawning is over

The club will be holding an Open Day at McGregor Lake on Saturday, the 24th of May, designed for novice anglers which will be open to non-members. Trained coaches will be on hand to provide tuition and assistance throughout the day. Refreshments and drinks will be provided too at the club’s expense. Fishing will start from around 8.30am but participants can come and go when they like.

Daytime catches are on the increase

Stuart Blacow fished overnight at McGregor Lake but had to wait until the next morning for some carp action. In two hours in the morning, Stuart caught two mirror carp weighing 15lbs and 17lbs.

Lone carp brightens up the day

Several anglers took advantage of one of the few dry days to go fishing at Sandy’s McGregor Lake. Robert Livock was one of those who returned for another day following his catches in the previous two weeks. Although there were plenty of small fish topping in the early morning, there were no signs of any carp moving as his lack of bites confirmed.

What a difference a week makes!

The improving weather has really started to get fish feeding with specimens of several different species caught. Richard Bartlett caught three carp from McGregor Lake with the biggest weighing 13lb 6oz. Richard was using fishmeal boilies as bait. Peter Biernis caught a small carp around 6lbs on hair rigged sweetcorn whilst Mick Duffy tempted two bream around 4lbs each using red maggot and a pinkie. Craig Garwood caught a nice double-figured mirror too.

Big pike is feeling a little blue!

Gary Page visited the Sandy Lakes complex for a bit of pike fishing on yet another very cold day. He float-fished a bluey deadbait which was eventually taken by a super conditioned 25lb 7oz pike. Robert Livock carp fished at McGregor Lake catching two almost identical mirror carp each weighing around 9lbs. Robert was using small boilies as bait ledgered towards one of the islands. Mick Baldwin was fishing a nearby swim ledgering maggots and caught a number of bream throughout the day.
