News Update: 5th August 2019

Very few anglers ventured out in the recent spell of hot weather followed by heavy rain but there were rewards for those who did. A member fishing at McGregor Lake caught four carp before rising temperatures finally made him call it a day. Dave Albon caught a 15lb 8oz mirror carp in the hot spell […]

News Update: 23rd June 2019

The recent monsoon weather did not deter Norman Brinn from putting a session in at Gingerbread Lake. His chosen swim was heavily weeded so he set about raking the area for nearly an hour before he considered it was clear enough to fish. His hard work was rewarded by a fantastic haul of eight carp […]

News Update: 19th May 2019

Current lake record holder at Swan, Lee Allum, caught several other fish during his session including a surprise 8lb 8oz tench. The previous weekend saw other anglers banking big carp from this venue too. Fraser Hayden has been frustrated in his quest for a double figured bream from Swan Lake as on his latest overnight […]

Another double-figured tench caught

Kevin Bacon had a memorable session at Gingerbread Lake catching several big carp and a whooping 10lb 6oz tench. His best carp weighed 34lb 4oz along with others weighing 28lbs, 27lbs and a low double.

Double-figured tench caught

Alan Bates was into his second night at Gingerbread Lake when he finally hooked into a fish but what a fish! It turned out to be the mirror carp known as ‘Moonscale’ weighing 40lb 2oz.

More great catches made during the week

Lee Edmans has been enjoying some terrific sport at Gingerbread Lake using Denham Baits’ boilies. During the week he caught 4 tench, the best weighing 8lb 2oz, and two 20lb+ carp, a 27lb 14oz common and a 25lb 2oz mirror. Trevor Odell fished a 48 hour session catching 5 carp including a 16lb common and mirrors weighing 25lb 10oz and 21lb 8oz on bottom baits whilst during the daytime he caught two carp weighing 20lb 2oz and 21lb 6oz on floaters. Anthony Pogmore managed to catch an 11lb 7oz common carp during the week too.

Big Tinca caught

Former barbell record holder Steve Curtin has chalked up another milestone by catching a double-figured tench from Gingerbread Lake. It is a shame but many of the carp anglers regularly catch huge tench from the lake but do not seem to appreciate such fish instead preferring to be ‘one club golfers’. Several carp were caught but they all appeared to be fish recently stocked into the lake indicating that the bigger carp were still awaiting a time to start their spawning activity. Paul Webb has been pre-baiting swims with a variety of baits including cockles and his efforts paid off when he caught two 5lb tench on float-fished cockles.

Later season tench caught

Several members have confirmed that most of the action from carp at McGregor Lake was being experienced in the evenings and after dark. Alan Wilkie fished the lake on a couple of occasions staying on until nightfall and it has enabled him to catch two good-sized carp from the lake, a 15lb 11oz mirror and another weighing 18lb 13oz. He added that his bigger fish fell to a snowman rig using 10lb b.s. line and ‘Avon’ rods giving him a 20 minute scrap.

Specimen crucian caught from Grace Lake

Martin Barnatt decided to try for crucian carp, a species stocked into Grace Lake by the club in recent years. He opted for an early morning session and was rewarded by catching a 2lb 14oz specimen. A few other movements were registered on his float but these were made by small roach, a nice tench which unfortunately was lost and a terrapin, confirming the presence of this reptile in the lake.

High pressure all but kills sport

The photo competition winner for May was Alex Malcolm with a picture of a mid-double mirror carp caught by him at Gingerbread Lake. Members are reminded that there is the opportunity to win prizes up to £100 from some of the major angling newspapers that routinely receive copies of our website reports. For example, some of the enormous tench caught at Gingerbread Lake in recent months may have qualified for substantial prizes if photos of the fish had been taken.
